What to Expect

Cymbalta is FDA-approved for fibromyalgia

Cymbalta is approved by the FDA for the management of fibromyalgia.more

Cymbalta offers relief from symptoms of depression, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), diabetic nerve pain (DNP), and fibromyalgia.

Cymbalta has been approved for the treatment of depression and GAD and the management of DNP and fibromyalgia. It has been shown to improve:

  • mood, aches and pains, and anxious symptoms associated with depression
  • anxiety symptoms and functioning associated with GAD
  • pain associated with DNP
  • painful symptoms and functioning associated with fibromyalgia

Cymbalta comes in a capsule and can be taken once a day. The recommended daily dose for Cymbalta is 60 mg. Cymbalta is not recommended for those under 18.

Knowing When Cymbalta Is Working

Feeling the way you do now probably didn't happen overnight. Feeling better may take a little time, too.

For mood symptoms in depression, patients may notice improvements in 1 to 4 weeks. Full antidepressant response may take 4 to 6 weeks. Patients may see improvement as early as 2 weeks in their anxious symptoms of GAD. In DNP and fibromyalgia trials, some patients experienced pain relief as early as 1 week. Results may vary from person to person.

Give Cymbalta time to work. And don't stop taking it without talking to your doctor. Work with your doctor to find a treatment program that is right for you.
